Neighborhood Insight
At once a quaint and bustling neighbourhood, the 4th is jam-packed with shops, cafès, small museums and some the oldest architecture in Paris. A walk though it’s ancient maze-like streets is an extraordinary way to spend the day.
Gaze over the Seine at the majestic Notre Dame Cathedral on the Pont Marie, on your way to checking out the dazzling array of speciality food shops and restaurants on the Ile Saint Louis - including Berthillon, the most famous ice cream purveyor in Paris (it's worth the queues, trust us). Over the bridge is rue Saint Paul, a darling street filled with antique dealers, artisan galleries and bookshops, and just of that the Village Saint Paul, a hidden treasure of interconnected courtyards. The rue Charlemagne and rue Nonnains D'Hyres, two of the most ancient in Paris, offering amazing examples of its earliest architecture, while the Maison Europeene de la Photographie is a must-see for fans of photography.
